The current board has accomplished a lot in Commissioner Shields’ first term:
- Increased transportation impact fees to bring millions into the County for new roads
- Streamlined operations and outsourced some operations to save taxpayer expense
- Stood up LEAD, a public/private economic development partnership to diversify our tax base away from rooftops and bring in high-paying jobs, help our current companies expand and spur entrepreneurship
- Increased reserves to cover hurricane expenditures and other public safety events
- Answered the business community’s call to start repaving our roads
- Fully funded public safety
..and much more…yet there is still more to do…further, the business community and his constituents have asked him for one more term!
The Commissioner has unfinished business in Four Corners, where he meets quarterly with his peers in Orange, Polk and Osceola to formulate a permanent solution for the area
He is advocating for an overhaul of the County land development regulations to eliminate the inconsistencies in our various code bases and put a stop to the endless, expensive battles between those who live here and those who want to.
He would like to finalize the collaboration with our cities, so that we are all on the same page of where our new residents (and our workforce!) are going to live, what lands we will continue to farm, where we will find open space and recreation, and where we will attract and grow business.
